We have been w/o AC since Friday and that's not so nice. It decided to quit raining and get into the 100's this week. Tuesday the guys came to put in the new unit (I could buy a pretty good car for what that thing costs). I was really glad to see them though. I grew up with no AC but I have acclimated. I made them some "sweet tea" and they were really pretty nice about the limited space, facing the heat, mosquito's and red wasps; but when the guy came in, eyes bugged out, out of breath and said, "we're on hold for right now", I new that was not a good sign.
Seems that as he was crawling under the house to hook up the piping, a big ol' copperhead dropped from up under the beams just behind him. His partner said, over and over that he had never seen any human move that fast. He was hauling copper wide and it sort of flew in several directions as he bolted. He told me later it was lucky he didn't come straight through the floor. As the song says; He was all shook up.
They called in 3 more guys, big brave guys, and mostly they stood around telling one another that they were not going up under there to find the snake. I guess the snake decided he wanted out too with all the ruckus disturbing his rest, and he came to close to the opening under the house. That was all she wrote. Shovels and crow bars flying, that critter was close to unrecognizable in seconds. I know that there is enmity (irreconcilable differences) between this woman and the serpent, but I've met a few guys today with the same issues.
And now thankfully the other crew has left, the guy who made the first encounter has gotten his heart rate and adrenalin levels under control, the other guy has quit making jokes about the hasty exit (for a while), and they have returned to the job of attaching a lot of pipes and wires. The acetylene torch did set of the smoke detector but I removed it, wrapped it in a towel and stashed it in a cupboard. It's back up now.
As I write this we now have lots of expensive cold air.
How's that Jane?
Thanks again Joseph for the new Pic. She and her babies are lovely!
