This painting is taken from a photo that I took. I was standing at the time on a rocky outcropping above Trumbull lake in the eastern high Sierras. Very few people actually go up on top of these rocks but it is a favorite place of mine. Our son likes to climb there.
In this painting I tried to get the colors more true. Usually I paint very bright colors, but this reflects closer to what I captured in the photo. Except the reflection in the lake....that wasn't there but my instructor wanted me to paint it in. It's my least favorite part of the painting. I loved the way the tiny flowers in the shadow in the crevice of the rocks came out. See if you can find them.
