(Jane) If, at sometime you would want to subdue and soften the reflections of the mountains in the lake so that you 'like them better,' you could take a very watered down thin wash of ultramarine blue and paint it over them. That little trick works to take away any edginess, bring them into harmony with the rest of your painting and, like I said, help you like them better. Because the blue cools them, it also cause those reflections to recede into the distance where you want them anyway.
