Driving to the fair Laurie commented that she wanted to find one of those ratty photo booths to take our pictures. We have never done it together. It's one of those silly things that friends do. Then as we were walking down one of the corridors outside the shopping buildings and Laurie says 'Hey! Theres one of those photo booths! Let's take our picture.' We noticed immediately that the booth said FREE PHOTOS on it. Laurie smelled something fishy about it but I was as naive as ever. We got inside the booth and sure enough there was no place to put any coins. We started the picture procedure and then in unison, we both made scary monster faces. It was totally spontaneous and unplanned, but so typical of us as friends.
After shooting the picture, and blinking away the flash of the light in our eyes, we sat there a minute. Then the booth spoke to us in a robotic feminine voice. "Are you enjoying the fair?" I said yes and Laurie barks out a resounding "NO". I look at her and say You aren't? The booth lady voice says, 'Oh dear, I heard a no in there. Why aren't you having fun?' Laurie made some other smart ass comment and then the booth said "I think someone needs a hug." Laurie and I look at each other and our eyes get big. We both look to the sides as if expecting some wierd scary arms to pop out of the walls to grab us. Then the booth said 'What is your favorite part of the fair?' Laurie exclaims 'Being in here. This is our favorite part.' The booth then tells us how sweet we are. The light flashes a couple times that the session was over and we went outside to pick up our photos as they came down the shoot.
We were slowly meandering along the walk way checking out the photos that had yet to develop, when three people with clipboards and headsets ran up to us laughing. They explained that they were from the Jay Leno show and we had been had. We might be on the show next Friday. The one guy whispered to me..."Those photos aren't ever going to develop, you know."
So Laurie and I may be famous in a week. Watch the Jay Leno show on Friday night. And if anyone knows where a photo booth is....We still need to get our picture taken.
