And they're OFF

Heidi, my friend, used to work at the race track....many moons ago. She still has connections and friends associated with the racing of the ponies. Today I was the happy recipient of Heidis largesse. She took me to the races at Santa Anita.

I had only been once before when I was child and my memories of the race track consist of my siblings getting stuck in an elevator. So this was new and fun. I didn't bet anything but spent lots of time evaluating the different horses. When every single one of my favorites lost...even coming in dead last, I was glad that I had saved my pennies. But what lovely fun. Those race horses can be really wierd looking with their big fat butts and teeny tiny waists. They looked like wasps that ran instead of flying. Strange looking creatures.

The race track held numerous types of entertainment. Mostly people watching....my favorite was the guy who gave us his bar stool because this other lady was bitching at us about taking hers. (We didn't know she was sitting in it. It looked empty at the time.) Then there was this guy...obviously enebriated, who ran over and asked us who he should bet on. I told him number nine. He happily ran off to bet on nine. Now if we had bet on nine in that race...we would have won. But alas....

I loved the whole experience....the horses, the people, just sitting looking at the mountains, everything. Of course sitting talking with Heidi. Good friends can really make a day.
