Trust me on this one: you absolutely don't want to use eucalyptus for smoking food. Certain woods emit poisonous smoke. I don't know if eucalyptus smoke is poisonous, but I have burned the wood and the smoke is entirely disgusting - a whole lot worse than cough drops!!!
Go for the mesquite.
