I just love them! I've been to the western side and the eastern side and I believe that I like the eastern face better. It seems to be more rugged and a little more arid than the western face. Every July I notice the thunderheads building over the desert east of San Diego and that is my signal to pack up and take the 8 or 9 hour drive up highway 395, thru Bishop and onward to Mammoth or Tuolomne Meadows in Yosemite. We couldn't do it this year and I'm not sure when we'll get back seeing as Colleen has developed a bad case of altitude sickness the last couple of time we've gone. It's just no fun doing things by myself while my wife lays in the tent suffering from an extreme headache and nausea. She's tried all of the remedies and has had more advice from well wishers than you would care to listen too and nothing seems to help. Maybe next summer I'll do it myself. In the 25 years of our marriage I've only done that once before but it may be time to do it again. I love to hike with a pack on my back and sleep in a little two man tent but Colleen requires more of the civilized comforts for a good time.
Still, I see those clouds and dream...
