Sounds like a lovely place.
You'd probably really like Peggy's Cove here in Nova Scotia.
Cape Breton is amazing!
The ocean and the desert. Like the sand of the desert and the sand on the seashore...
How does one preserve freedom?
That's what I think of in the desert or along the seashore. The vast bounty of open spaces; the ocean, the desert, the sky and the stars.
Here's some interesting literature on the subject:
Might as well do some quality reading, while FREE to enjoy those wide, open spaces!

Fredric Madeleine, and Henry Boston are both Christian Ministers, who write against the Drug Laws.
The Drug Controversy and the Rise of Antichrist
By Fredric Madeleine
A diatribe showing that the drug war is part of a larger propaganda war designed to lead the world into a worldwide dictatorship, as predicted in scripture. Written by a modern day reformer, to show that the drug laws are based on an ancient and violent system of idolatry. Fredric Madeleine holds up Antiochus IV, Caesar Nero, and Adolf Hitler as prototypes of Antichrist, and presents the Gospel as the only solution for the drug problem. 20 pages

The Heresy of the Cup

Forsaken Fountain
By Henry Boston

In the writings of the Constitutional Fathers, the six most frequently quoted sources are: (in order)
The Bible
John Locke
Algernon Sidney
Herodotus
Montesquieu
Blackstone
We highly recommend that every American should read these two:
Two Treatises of Government
John Locke, a man of simple faith, was incensed by the idea of the "divine infallibility of Kings". He wrote his response with a Bible in one hand. John Locke proved that there is no basis for any man to usurp authority over any other man ever, and that all men have a God given right to be free. 310 pages
TTG $17.95
The Spirit of the Laws
Montesquieu is the true, and largely forgotten, father of modern political science. His thesis on how a modern republic can revert back into despotism is very applicable today. Many parts of our constitution are based on Montesquieu's book. If you would like to expose the lies of big government, understanding begins here. This is the real long hair stuff. 684 pages

During the 1930s, Dietrich Bonhoeffer was one of the only voices in the world who continued to use his pulpit to denounce the rise of National Socialism and to expose its false values. Adolf Hitler was convinced that the preaching of Bonhoeffer was responsible for dissension among his generals. After a failed attempt on Hitler's life, he had Bonhoeffer arrested. Bonhoeffer was executed by the Gestapo at the concentration camp at Flossenberg in 1945, just a few days before the camp was liberated by the Allies.
Many believe that Dietrich Bonhoeffer was one of the most brilliant theologians of this century.
These are three of his best works:
The Cost of Discipleship
Dietrich Bonhoeffer's best known work. The way of the Cross is always costly, it cost Jesus his life. 352 pages
CD $12.00
Ethics

Creation and Fall / Temptation
