I woke up around 4:45am this morning and got up to wander the house. I saw that Jane was up and reading too, so I asked her if she wanted to watch TV.

I put on the news and saw that the Space Shuttle was going to land at Edwards Airforce Base this morning. Our house backs up to the San Gabriel mountains. On the other side is the base.

As we were watching the TV coverage, I mentioned to Jane that we would probably hear a sonic boom soon. A few moments later. BANG!!!

I went outside. It was still dark, and I could see what looked like a really big star moving very fast in the sky directly above our house. I called for Jane and we watched it fly by and over the mountains behind the house.

Then we went back in and watched it land on TV.

A very cool way to start the day.
