Spiritual Abuse

I got done early from work today, so I sat down after lunch and a nap and started reading one of the many books I have that I hardly ever have time to read, this one is called “ Tired of Trying to Measure Up. This section caught my attention. It is called “Spiritual Abuse”. There is a lot to it, but here are some parts. “ There are some religious systems, however, where what the people think, how they feel and what they want or need doesn’t matter. Sound familiar?

Something else that caught my attention was a section called “ His Compassion” it is a section talking about Jesus. I did post this section on Bible Search one time. It says “ Jesus compassion went out to the distressed and oppressed: Matt.15: 32. The word compassion carries with it some extremely deep connotations. It is a mixture of love, anger and grief. Seeing people’s needs, their hunger, their pain, their abuse, He felt compassion. Jesus’ response was never to shame people.”

Unlike Berg who had no problem shaming anyone. Which brings me back to another part of the “Spiritual Abuse” section. “ Where there is spiritual abuse there are people who, through spiritual means, attempt to meet their own needs for importance, power, intimacy, value, or spiritual (really, self-related) gratification. When anyone with a position of power and authority uses that power to manipulate, or to shame others into performing, it is spiritually ( also emotionally and psychologically ) damaging. “ Did Berg ever shame you or try too shame you into performing? He did me.
