That happened to me once with a fan. We were camping and I plugged in this fan to cool off and it ran twice as fast as it ever had before. Come to find out I had plugged the 110 fan into a 220 outlet, it burnt it up, but boy oh boy did it run good at first. This probably isn't your problem, but it reminded me of the fan incident.
