Thanks for the info Bobbym, I have also shimmed behind the hinge leaf as you are speaking, only the biggest majority of time I run two or three screws in (not in the holes for the hinge screws of course) and leave them out about the same thickness as your cardboard. Also most of the time when I move the door this way then I also have to reset the hardware, at least the doorkeeper. I have also tried your screwdriver method, but for residential doors, you are right it really doesn’t work and I have pulled screws out.
