Even the wireless ones have gotten really cheap. I've had one made by Siemens running here for a while. We had a power failure and it didn't come back up after the power did. I sent it off for replacement under the warranty, and in the meantime I bought another one made by US Robotics. I think with the rebate it ended up costing about $29.00.
I used to beta test modems for USRobotics back in the day. I've always been partial to their products.
I remember getting packages at work from them containing new modems to try. I'd tell people at work that I was building a robot. I don't know if that company ever actually made a robot, but they made the very best high speed modems back before broadband became king.
