I had some chairs

of a similar construction (but not rockers) and every time I glued them they would be fine for a few months but then the glue would fail and they would come apart again. Then someone told me about a product that, instead of glueing the pieces together, caused the wood to swell so that the joints were very tight but had no glue holding them. It worked so well that I never had any problem with those chairs afterwards. That was 5 years ago and the chairs are still in good condition now.
