The reason has nothing to do with viruses.

Windows XP is a 32 bit operating system and will only run 32 bit programs designed to run in windows.

There was a version of windows, I think it was 98, that would run both 16 bit and 32 bit programs, but that was deprecated in windows XP.

The only way you can run those programs is if you install them on a computer that has a 16 bit operating system on it.

You'll have to either get the upgraded version of your program or get a computer with a 16 bit operating system.

You might be able to use compatibility mode. Read this article:
