Or perhaps there is an anti-piracy protection on your car cd player.
I have come across some software that refuses to play "copies" of copyrighted music. There is a sort of verification mark on the original cd that cancels a reject command recorded on the CD. Without the cancellation, such anti-piracy software refuses to play the cd. I doubt that this would be present in a car cd player, but it is possible.
