Ooops! I didn't read the error message very closely.

16-bit MS-DOS subsystem; The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.

Were your games running in DOS? If so, you may not get them to work at all in Windows XP since the "DOS Mode" in XP is only emulated -- that is, it is made to look like DOS with command line etc.

Windows 95 was actually a grafical interface running on top of DOS a 16 bit operating system. It was not a true operating system in itself. That's why DOS programs would work with it. I think 98 was a true operating system but it had the parallel DOS operating system which would allow you to still run your 16 bit programs.

But since 32 bit machines have come along, they are too fast for the old programs, and now with some of the 64 bit machines coming out there are even problems using 32 bit programs -- saying nothing of 16 bit.

You may find it next to impossible to use your programs in XP, if your new machine is 64 bit -- I think the new versions of XP are 64 bit.

My, how the world is speeding up!
