I thought you'd never ask

For about the last month my computer has been acting strange. I have Norton anti-virus and it doesn't find anything, I have ad-aware and spy-bot too and they found and corrected some problems but aparently not the main one.

When I try to go on-line. The ADSL connects but then I get a message that it can't find the server. I have to then close down the connection and then retry. It almost always works the second time. But never the first.

There are a lot of other telltale signs that something is wrong.

Earlier today when I typed words, the cursor would not move for many keystrokes and then suddenly it would spring into action and type a lot of letters that I did not type.

I did a clean up, a refrag, and erased a lot of unneeded things and then reinstalled windows and the keyboard problem seems to be gone. But the connection problem is still there.

Another question
Is there a way to reset the registry to it's original default condition (short of reformating the hard disk I mean).

I have a lot of things I don't want to lose, but I know that the registry has been altered by various malware.

And a final thing that is wierd.

Several times when closing down recently I have received a message that someone is connected to my computer and asking if I still want to close down. It even gives the name (pseudonym) of the person and there have been several different names. I have a small network in my house but I am not connected to any other network and I am not running any sort of peer to peer software. Could it be that someone has somehow tapped into my computer. If so how does my computer know the person's pseudonym?
