Yes I can get to D, but the command is what I don't know. I followed these instructions to Format drive C, but they don't say what to do after you format from the A prompt. As far as the Windows CD starting automatically no that doesn't happen.

" How to format your hard drive!

Right, here`s the easy bit (just make sure you remember or print the following basic instructions :-)

Put the startup disk into the floppy drive and reboot (reset) your computer.

When it boots up you`ll get different options to choose from, pick the option that lets you boot from the floppy, with CD-ROM support.

When it`s booted you`ll be able to type at the prompt that appears. Just type
Format C:
and press the Return (or Enter) key on your keyboard. From then on it`s just a case of reading what the computer says ("really format?", etcetera).

This assumes you have ONE hard drive. If you don`t then please replace the C: part with the letter of the one you want to format although C: is the standard for most pc`s, if you have two hard drives then D: is usually the second Hard disk drive :-)

As with all articles about computers if you damage your pc it isn`t my fault but, being honest, this is just a legal obligation to point out - I personally have done allsorts with computers and won`t reccomend anything which is likely to in any way damage your computer.

Basically it`s up to you if you do it but it shouldn`t cause any problems ;-)"
