Not sure if this should go here, but I do need to 'fix' my future.

This topic was started at exfam. and there was some great advice over there, but I'm looking for more!

Can all of you who have life insurance or retirement plans formulated give us a rundown of how you began, where did you look, what choices did you make? I'm going to start paying into a policy soon, just haven't made the choice as to which policy, what company, what type, etc.

What I'd like is a whole-life policy that also has some cash or dividend benefits, or something to offer more than just the death benefits. I'm going to first start my husband's, and after that's settled, do mine.
