I use XP Pro SP2 2006 version2, on a P4 2.66 Ghz PC with 1 Gb of RAM.
I often (every 2 to 3 hours) clear out the Prefetch file so it makes my PC run faster (much faster!) but I have heard and read conflicting reports about this practise. What do you think?

Also, on the same machine, I tried running a copy of Linux - Freespire is the distro - but by using a different hard drive. I liked the distro but finally gave up on it because it's so slow compared to Win XP, especially Firefox 2 and Thunderbird 1.5.0.9 . Do you have any suggestions for making it faster, 'cos I quite fancy moving away from Windows completely and using Open Source instead. I did try Ubuntu 6.10 and Fedora Core 6, but they were as slow and couldn't open the files I use a lot, whereas Freespire can.
