Television as birth control

Ok, don't hold me to this, it's all second and third hand info BUT....

I heard on the radio the other day that there was this small village in India that hadn't had electricity. When they were finally hooked up it was noticed after a year or two that the birth rate had declined. Some people believe that the increased light kept people up later or socializing more, sooo...less time in the dark, less opportunity to, ah...

It has also been noted that when late night television became more popular, specifically the Jonny Carson show, that the birth rate in middle America dropped, and has continued to drop since then.

And of course we've all heard the story about the blackout power outage in New York in the sixties which resulted in an increase of births nine months later...

The Grouchmate and I have this discussion every once in a while about having a tv in our bedroom. I am against it because I go to bed before the mate is ready and if we had a tv in the bedroom she would keep me up with it. It's not the sound, it's the light. Even a night light will disturb my sleep. Not only that but I'm SURE that any opportunity that may present itself would be squelched by that stupid tube!

So, how many of YOU have a thied eye in the bedroom, and how do you deal with it stealing "quality time" from you and YOUR mate? Any volunteers?
