Joe sent away for a copy of Ken Alpine's book 'Off Season' for me. I have started reading it and am totally enchanted. Ken is a travel writer but it's not so much descriptions of places or things, but the people he met along the way. So far I have only read the first chapter and it's about revisiting a place in Florida where Ken worked as a life guard in his youth. From there he will travel up the eastern coastal areas. All the way to Maine.

The thing that cracks me up is how we met this guy on the island Anacapa and immediately began spilling the beans on our thoughts about stuff. I don't know what made us do that. I was with my friend Heidi and we told him tale after tale about endurance riding on horses, our kids, joking about the other campers on the island and all sorts of stuff. He would let slip a tidbit of information about himself and we would start off again on new stories that his stuff brought up. The man has a talent with people.

I'm interested and apprehensive about what his new book will be like. His new book about being on Anacapa island....uh, yep..he is writing a new book. It comes out in April.
