In Belizaire the Cajun. One of my favorite indy flicks of all time. Historic drama about the persecution of French creole/cajun community in southern Louisiana during the 19th century. It won acclaim at Cannes as a romantic drama with an ironic plot twist. Duvall plays a preacher, Assante is Belizaire Breaux, spokesman for the Cajun community. An all-around delightful movie. Rent it if you have the opportunity.
