Insensitive - that is exactly the word I was looking for. I think you may be right that they are doing it for the cameras, but I feel for some of those contestants. I have a friend - her daughter is really a lousy singer and can't stay in tune, but my friend and her daughter both think the daughter has the most wonderful voice. It just isn't so. She would be devastated if some of those things were said to her. The mom has said so many times that she wanted her daughter to go to school and major in music because of her voice, and I always think, 'Please, NO!' However, I could never bring myself to say that.
