I love to read books. Usually nonfiction stuff, mountain climbing, traveling adventures, etc. But occasionally novels like Gone with the Wind, The Thornbirds, Shogun, Harry Potter.
Right now I am reading three books at once. The Italian travel book I read one chapter every night. That way I can savor it longer instead of rushing through it. I like to imagine that I am still there in Italy, drinking the cappucinos and hearing the strangely cool wail of the emergency sirens.
The second book is Walking the Bible. I read it after the Italy book and usually fall asleep while reading it. It's about some guy who decided to walk through the areas covered in the books of Moses. Parts are interesting. Parts are boring but I figure that I am probably just too sleepy by then to give it my full attention.
The third book is called Reading Lolita in Tehran. It's by a Iranian woman who was educated in the States and went back to Iran to teach literature right before the revolution. She went through some exasperating scary times and through it all still kept her interest in literature and teaching alive. She started a secret book club for women at her home. During the story we get to know many of the students she works with and how they deal with the wierdness of the country during the transitions of power. I read this book when I wait for the little red to come out of school and during her tutoring time.
My room is a little library with three book shelves but I really need more. Some books are still stacked on the floor in the hall closet and hidden in the back bedroom closet.
