In my younger days I used to go a lot. Living in Los Angeles, we get every major act in the world in venues that range from the 92,000 seat L.A. Memorial Coliseum down to tiny clubs on the Sunset strip.
Several years ago, I "retired" from going to large concerts. It just became too irritating to me to deal with the parking and the crowds. Sometimes bad sound. People who stand up (even on their chairs) during the entire event, so you can't see.
I did break my retirement last year to take Casey to the live American Idol concert at Staples. I probably hadn't been to a large concert like that in over ten years. It really wasn't as bad as I remembered. Staples is right next to the Los Angeles Convention Center, where I have a parking card that lets me into their lot for free (because of my business relationship with the center). None of the concert people were parked there, and we walked right into the concert, and got right out again at the end. The seating was arranged with the people in the row in front being so much lower down than you, even if they did stand, you could see. So, I guess the large venues are getting better too.
Mostly, I'll go if I know it is a smaller club. So many of the people I liked to listen to when I was younger play in them now, because their popularity has waned. It's a lot more fun to me.
