In '69 I became aware of Rod McKuen, a poetry writing, sometimes singing, mostly composing, artist. First I read his poetry, which was/is sentimental, sometimes maudlin, often simplistic, but always accessible.

He characterized his singing voice as that of someone who gargled with "Dutch Cleanser" but that didn't stop him from recording. Two of his most popular songs are "Jean", recorder by Oliver, and “If You Go Away”, sung by Frank Sinatra. He also translated a song by French songwriter Jaques Brel, called “Seasons In The Sun” recorder by Terry Jacks.
