We climbed up that thing. The entire inside ceiling of the Dome is painted with these terrific and terrifying paintings of all sorts of Biblical stuff and also some stuff that I am sure is the product of the artist imagination...demons and devils attacking people in what surely is meant to be hell. It was quite scary to be nose to nose with that stuff. Then we kept going up these narrow stairs with rickety handrails until we were on the very tiny steps that went up and over the curve of the dome itself. The little red and I stayed together for the strentuous climb up to the top spire. From there we had a wonderful view of the city of Florence and unbeknownst to us it had poured rain on Joe and the big red as they waited down at the street.
