Hi Lolo, I'm still researching this, the week got real hectic there. Here's a few things I found out so far:
The reason cranberry juice is recommended and works is cause it lines the ureter and makes it difficult for the bacteria to stick to it.
Another herb you can try out is parsley, make a fresh parsley tea:
-- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped, brew 5 minutes in 1 cup of boiled water.
-- Add honey and lemon to taste
Parsley is a dieuretic herb, it causes your body and bladder to cleanse (in other words, to pee), which is very important in flushing out the bacteria and infection.
Mountain savory oil is antibacterial, and is recommended to take in a gel capsule a couple times a day to kill the infection from the inside.
Juniper berries can be soothing to the swollen area, dilute juniper oil with massage oil and rub on, or use the herbal form in a bath to soak.
If you have bladder or kidney stones, parsley is known to help dissolve them, and very importantly--go pee as soon as you have to, don't wait.
I would highly recommend you get checked by a doctor though to find out if you have the stones and where they are, then we can discuss it again. If you had a kidney condition, no matter how many years ago, and didn't properly treat the infection, chances are it has been in your body, and is now again causing you problems in another form.
I'll try to put up some more detailed information soon though, I've almost finished getting it together.
