Personally I think the tug of war between the pharmascuetical companies and the natural food and vitamin industry are at juggernauts with each other and therefore the discrepencies in the various studies done by each.
Personally I believe the vitamins and enzimes and minerals and herbs which have little or no side effects unless used in unsafe combinations are far superior to the chemical compounds in most drugs.
