(This post is a resume of several articles posted in the newspapers.)War is not good for your health:causes anxiety, damaged minds, bodies and loss of life. It causes a feeling of uncertainty. The effects of war since September 11,(and it does not matter where you are and on what side you are on); people going to psychiatrists since the events are complaining about feeling more vulnerable.
The acronym COPE tells us what to do.
C for Calm and connected
O for Optimistic and objective
P for participate and be pro-active
E for emote and empower
I heard of an old lady today who is listening to CNN in her chair all day long. Her husband was killed in the war in a tank. So, the images seen on TV are bringing back horrible memories and bring her in a state of delusion.
Tricks to cope:
Keep informed but not overdo it.
Showing your emotions is not a sign of weakness.
Talk to your friends.
Relax, enjoy an old movie or a comedy.
If you have other tricks or experience to share on how to COPE, please post them here.
