Your comparison, Joel

Your comparing Paul to Berg does not equate, imo. Paul, in persecuting Christians did so and was terribly wrong but it was not illegal in his day when and where he did so. Christianity was a new thing and looked upon as heretical by many people at the time. So Paul has a conversion of heart or mind, much like in the film "CRASH" and becomes a different person.

Berg on the other hand, was a con man, a pedophile and a control freak who did it all in the name of God and made doctrines out of it that affect people to this day in a very negative way. He obviously was not sorry for his ways to make doctrine out of it.

Pedophilia is not something comparable to murder and torture that is government sanctioned. A person can see the error of their ways and have a complete turnaround in life. A murderer and torturer where government hasn't sanctioned it can have a turn around in their life and become a very different person.

Berg's FFing and incest were not his only deviancies.
He also had antisocial tendencies in that he taught early followers to have a sense of entitlement, like the "system" owes us and we should have whatever we desire or not get ticketed for speeding, or not pay for public transportation or whatever because we were 'God's Children'.

I was looking at the writings at Recovery and realizing how there was so much more wrong than Berg's sexual deviance. We were 'astray' from the beginning in many ways. Some were more comfortable with that line of thought than others. Many of us left and some: repented, others would call it changing their ways. Some disliked the doctrines of "forsaking all" and some got into the swing of things to help others let go of their personal property. The same with FFing. Some got into it with a gusto and liked it while others hated it. That is why I think what is needed for Recovery after the group varies by individual and why individually if people want to get healthy they have to look at where they were in the group and what they did personally and how they felt about it. We all got at least a little grey in there, imo. There was no way to be separate from the beast completely while within it.

I do believe the letters were significant to BERG because I believe conscience (some call it God) was speaking to him about his own deviancy. So letters like "The School", "The Playground", "The Green Door", "Demonology" and others seemed to be more about him and what the family was than what the 'system' was.

That is how I see it anyway. With pedophilia and incest unfortunately, there is only remission and no cure. And remission is usually only possible with a lot of social support and restrictions, like don't be around children at all and strict oversight by a probation or parole officer as well as community knowledge of the person's sickness.

So someone that is a gang leader who has committed many illegal acts and possibly even murder can have a change of heart and become a good productive citizen to be admired.

But a pedophile will need to be watched out for as long as he or she lives or until science comes up with a cure. I have known of too many who got "delivered" via a church ministry and then repeated their acts because people naively believed that was all that was needed.

Having said this, is it possible that the letters are significant in the sense that Berg wrote about his own condition thinking he was revealing something about 'the system' but was never a prophet of God at all? Just a malicious and deviant weak man who twisted scripture to create his 'playground'?

I am saying this because even if Berg were alive and he was able to slap sentences together and know what he was saying, I truly don't believe that with all he has done in the name of God that he would be anything more than the above who said he was sorry and honestly speaking, I would have a hard time to believe it was genuine unless he renounced all his sexual and forsaking all doctrines, disbanded the group and liquidated all his assets to assist followers in getting on their feet and to assist those still in need who have left and NEVER EVER again lead any kind of 'ministry'. Same goes for Maria and Peter.

I don't even think he would ever be capable of that in life. I think he was way too psychopathic to be able to do that. Not a prophet at all, but a psychopath, yes.
