
(Chris) I looked up the original Hebrew and it means, basically, to call out loudly. I think a lot of us have done this when we were desperate. That's similar to commanding.
And secondly, He gave so many promises regarding asking Him for things.
Example:
For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Some could twist this around possibly, but it just says what it says.
So that gives me confidence to ask Him to do whatever good thing I'm asking Him. Sometimes I say to myself, after I've prayed, "Bread not a stone" and "a fish not a scorpion", etc. It's the Truth. There are no qualifications. He just says "Ask".
I think the "command"ing part is just the attitude we have to take in order to overcome our own shyness regarding asking and it solidifies the deal in my heart and mind when I say, "Lord, you gotta do this. I can't!"
