You've touched on important points. I'd just like to add that Berg was also unrepentant regarding his sexual sins; therefore, why would he be receiving anything from God other than the Holy Spirit's urging to repentance, which he obviously ignored. Berg was, therefore, similar to Saul (if we are going to draw ANY connection betw. him and any Biblical character). Look at Samuel's warning to Saul when God rejects him as king:

1 Samuel 15:22-23
And Samuel said,
"Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has also rejected you from being king."

Remember one of the verses that we used to self-righteously quote in regard to those who refused to join TF or who had left TF:

2Thes 2:10-11
...because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:....

Berg and his mother were sent strong delusion.
