This is an interesting post to me. I am getting it now regarding the differences in how you and Joel believe regarding Berg. When you mentioned how he did not send any notes to Faithy or anything so she surmised he was dead, it was no surprise to me though. I was thinking how Maria's own biological son could not reach her personally for quite some time. That is what is so weird about the Berg family: How they can cut off the closest of their own family members just like that.
When you mentioned that Jane B. wanted to have his body exhumed at one point, I could see the results coming back as it not being his body because of the ultra security consciousness of family leadership. Some have said the body was buried in Portugal under an assumed name, dug up and cremated. That means there would be no trace. That seems odd too in light of the fact that the Family seemed to think a "proper" burial was something that should occur, not cremation.
Could all this have been done to keep people wondering and to give Maria a sense of control above all? I don't know.
But truly at the age he would be now if he were alive, don't you think after all the STD's, possible irreversible dementia caused by Alcohol (Wernicke-Korsakoff Syndrome?) that he would be any more lucid than Pope John Paul was shortly before he died? In fact less so?
Yes it is weird all the secrecy about the body. I agree with Miriam though in that if he is dead he is hidden out more likely because of the thousands that would like to desecrate his grave!
