Because they have forsaken the Word of the Lord and have rejected it from their hearts, it shall destroy them from even the midst of them.

These are metaphorical prophecies, referring to the armies that will come upon the nations in judgment, like a quick storm. God has seldom judged nations with natural disasters and storms. This is the Devil's department, to cause destruction by storms. Throughout history, God has mostly sent His judgments by armies coming in and taken His people captive, or armies destroying each other, so I believe these are figurative of troop movements in that day and also in these days we are living now.
