An Apology and a little "history".

I was recently told that I offended some people with some of my ethnic accents and titles. So let me say first off that I'm sincerely sorry. I never dreamed I was hurting anyone and I would never do it on purpose, so please forgive me.

When I do silly imitations of an 1800‘s southern black, for example, I realize I can get carried away. So I do apologize for that. Please remember that I'm living in Europe and not fully aware of how sensitive the subject has become there in the States. George was kind enough to see that and give me the benefit of the doubt, but I would like to explain a bit more here, so I hope you'll stick with me on this.

I don’t criticize anyone for being born a certain color, or shape or size and I find it totally ridiculous to do so.

I'd like to give a bit of background on this so that those I've offended can see that I'm not just "saying the right words" here.

A Little History:I’m from Texas, yes, the south, but the first friend I can remember my mom having was a wonderful black lady there in Bryan, Texas. She was one of the most Christian, godly people I ever met in my whole life and she took it upon herself to evangelize my somewhat „heathen“ family. And she did so with love. Nothing else. Just showing love and concern and praying for us. She was just a great lady and a genuine woman of God.

In that same place, I remember my first baby sitter, Pinky. Pinky was 80-something years old and she was anything, but pink. Pinky was dark-chocolate brown, and my sister and I just adored her. We loved having Pinky take care of us cause she was so kind and loving and patient. She would amuse us by taking out her false teeth and letting us look at them. Lana was always a little beauty-queen type and she, at 5 years old, would stand on the chair behind Pinky and would give her a „hair style“. Dear Pinky took all our shenanigans and fooling around just as easy as you please.

Her husband was old, too, of course and he’d tell us stories and showed us his deformed finger. I remember him explaining how it got that way and he’d answer all our childish questions. He also taught my dad how to hunt and skin squirrels. To this day I can tell you how to skin a squirrel, but I never purposely hurt animals either.

When I was doing my hippy stint in the late 60‘s, two of my best friends were Marvin and Dave. They were both black and hippies, too. That’s all we saw in each other. Marvin called me „Mother earth“ and he was such a sweet guy until he got involved with the black muslims who were against whites. It broke my heart. So I know how it feels to be discriminated against. I don’t hold it against him, though. It was just the spirit of the times.

In 1991, I was out of TF, and I was staying with my mom. After awhile she got to talking about Ollie. Ollie was one of the maids who worked in the housekeeping department that my mom was in charge of. She and Mom were absolute best friends and whenever Mom would be transferred to another hotel, Ollie would pack up and go with her. In fact, my mom told the director that she wouldn’t work there without Ollie.

But by 1991, at 75, Mom wasn’t up to travelling so she said, „When you’re in Dallas next time, look up Ollie. I’d love to know how she’s doing.“

So a month later I was in Dallas and I called Ollie and asked her if I could come over. She joyfully agreed and invited me right away.

For anyone who knows Dallas, you’ll catch the following. Ollie lived near the Texas State Fair grounds in the colored part of town. Me, with my blue eyes and blond hair, drove up to her little house and before I could even get to the door, Ollie came running down the walkway, arms open wide, shouting, „That’s muh Baby!“ And I got the hug of my life!

How could you not just adore someone like that?

So, with aaaall of that said, from now on I’ll just stick to Robin Williams, Carol Channing and Greta Garbo accents and the occassional „kazoo“ sounds. If Darkangel doesn’t like ze french accents I’ll cut zose, too. I also do hill-billy accents, but Austrians don't quite catch the humor in it. Ach, du lieber!

So forgive me. I'm sorry and I love you all, black, albino, it doesn’t matter.
