I think P&M were worried that Family members would turn Berg's grave into a shrine, and go there to get messages from him themselves, which would remove current leadership from their place of power as priestly "middle men"; purported channelers of Berg's spirit.

The sources of my information are people I know and trust. They are fully out of the Family, physically, spiritually, and mentally, with no reason to embellish or cover up any facts related to Berg's death.
