It's funny how people that are supposed to be "children of light,,of the day",,can eventually be the most in the dark about things (such as,,the practical details of living responsibly in the world).
They usually use that excuse,,,"Well,,we are a 'peculiar people'",,
It's just an excuse to avoid dealing with the practical matters of living in the world.
"IN the world, but not OF the world"
We tried to "leave" the world, in order to be "different".
"I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world." ICor.5:9-10
It is evident that the Christian life is not one of "leaving the world", but of living IN IT, yet not according to its nature. We live IN the world, but are a different people, not because we choose to be "peculiar" (good excuse for a lot of nonsense, and just plain natural contrariness), or "odd" in order to "feel" different from the "systemites". Every genuine child of God, born of the Spirit of God, IS different, by nature. There's no need to TRY to be different. We just ARE, by virtue of the heavenly nature of the divine birth,,i.e.,,Christ in us. We have ANOTHER life, an heavenly one, that makes us distinct and separate in an organic way, not just a physical one. By overmuch effort given to "separating" ourselves physically from "the world" (though the "world" was actually still very much a part of our nature, and still is, to the extent that we are still natural,,), we did nothing to genuinely make ourselves different from others, except in outward behavior. That's why we were so argumentative, hostile, and alienated from others, including our own natural families. It was too much a threat to the continuation of the group to allow intermingling with "outsiders", because in nature we were primarily just the same as they, and this would be discovered if too much "intermingling" were to be allowed (This is the reason all such interaction over the internet is disallowed in the group. It allows too much realization of the folly of "trying" to be "different".) There wasn't really a lot different about us, as almost all of our so-called "Christian" practice was primarily based on outward changes,,i.e.,,changing the place we lived, and with whom,,who we listened to and obeyed,,and what we wore or owned,,what we read,,etc.
In order for people to actually BE different, separate, holy, sanctified dispositionally, and not merely positionally, it is necessary to receive and partake of ANOTHER LIFE, that is, an heavenly one. This was not possible to a great extent in the group because we were not allowed the freedom to pray, read, believe on our own, before God, as much as we were living a religious life before men. (And in truth, religion is just another facet of Satan's world, only with another face.)
Without real freedom there is not the opportunity to have a life before God, in secret, as is addressed in Matthew 6. Without real freedom it is not possible to come privately to the Father at the throne of grace, to receive abundantly of His mercy and grace (Hebrews 4:16, Romans 5:17)
Without freedom, we are always living a life before men, and not before God.
