What always comes to mind for me was a Mo Letter where Berg was on a train w/ Maria...and there was a psychiatrist sitting across from them. As Berg told it, this individual had a familiar spirit & was rebuked by Mo, who apparently, thumped his cane on the floor and cursed the guy. Anyway, this image just always stuck w/ me, along w/ the stories of deprogrammers, who employed psychological techniques and were on par w/ Satan, as far as TF was concerned.

As I remember, there were other quotes that put down "man's" mental approach to problems as invalid and weak, compared to God's answer of prayer, rebuking the Devil. I now find it ironic that the controlling language used by Berg and others - a textbook mechanism[repetition, repetition, repetition!] - were part of TF's rhetoric, while any sort of psychological type approach or explanation was fleshy and evil. Also, since counsellers deal w/ an individual's feelings and self perception, and TF's manipulation in that area is so strong, of course any other attitudes than those allowed by Family practices would be dismissed as unGodly. When my ex and I first left, we were afraid of even speaking about some of our concerns to anyone but each other or socializing w/ anyone. For a long time, we kept an "witnessing" attitude w/ others, as it was safe and allowed us distance. Anyway, it took awhile for each of us to even have a persona other than the ones we'd performed in TF.
Isn't it amazing that intelligent adults can be so deeply affected .............
