As I was thinking back over things that had happened I realised that I had left out an entire episode of something that happened while Meshach and I were waiting to hear about a home for me. Out of the blue Elkanah and his remaining group showed up. They parked their vehicles on the street below the pensione where we were temporarily staying. Elkanah told us about his friend Jezreel and his wife Rhoda. They lived outside of Rome. Somehow I was invited to visit with Jezreel and Rhoda. While I was making their acquaintance, Elkanah and his group were setting up a camp alongside the road below where Jezreel and Rhoda lived. I was kind of shocked at the camp they set up. I don't know why I was shocked but I was. The camp seemed so dirty. The baby Venus was crawling around in the dirt on the floor of the tent. I visited several times with Jezreel and Rhoda because I was hoping each time to see Zohar. He was still giving me a cold shoulder but I was hopeful. One evening as it got dark at their camp, fireflies came out. It was the first time I had ever seen fireflies and I was enchanted by them. Zohar caught some in a jar and we watched them light up as we sat in the landrover.
Jezreel invited me to come live with him and Rhoda to help take care of their baby, after my baby was born. I agreed to come back because I was hoping that Elkanah would come back and that I could rejoin with them. Jezreel said he would send me money to come and to just let him know what date I would arrive. Of course that was months in the future so I didn't think about it much.
Jezreel and Rhoda were an interesting couple. Jezreel was American and he was enormously fat. It was really unusual to see anyone in the Family that was that big. He seemed like a nice enough guy though and so I didn't have many misgivings about coming to live with him. His wife Rhoda was a tiny french girl. They had just had their baby daughter Amarina. Rhoda was still nursing her and had so much milk that it used to squirt across the room. They didn't seem very much like Family people but then I had been out of the loop for awhile.
Before Elkanah left he told me that he had found a home for Tamar. She would be staying with some friends of his in World services. I was wishing that I could have gone with her but it was not to be. Elkanah also warned me about going to live with Jezreel. He said that Jezreel wasn't a very spiritual person and that I would be sorry if I moved there. I didn't tell Elkanah the real reason that I wanted to move back to Jezreel. I was afraid of what he might tell me.
It was a real confusing time and I was grasping at straws. When the invite from Verona came I decided to take it. It sounded like the best bet for when the baby was going to be born. But my heart was torn about where to go, what to do and who to trust. I didn't know what these people in Verona were going to think when they found out that I came from Mothers team.
