That I agree with whole heatedly. Sometimes sorting out our past, the world around and the influences that have put us all together is a bit of a roller coaster.
There is a verse in Genesis 3 where God warns Eve that, "he will rule over you", or one translation is, "Your turning will be toward him". This oppression of his and obsession of hers has been a formula for abuse, slavery and destruction for most of history.
Not until Jesus did any woman sit at the foot of a Rabbi to learn, nor until the early church did many women, that did not rise through their father's or husband's power, take much of a positions of leadership. Though eventually the church returned to it's male and power dominating pattern, it was truly the beginning of hope for women and slaves.
