There was a movie on Lifetime recently that caught my attention when I was flipping the channels. It was exactly that - a man who had a number of wives and tons of children and was very abusive. He cut off the hand of one of the wives in front of everyone as a lesson. They had a hard time getting any of the wives to testify against him because of the abuse and control. I think it was based on a true story. I am sure it is more frequent than the once in while stories we hear in the news.
