In my experience, polygamy does not work. I think the only way it can be pulled off is by subverting minds of those they want to dominate as when it's part of a religion (i.e., Islam or TFI) or as in the case of Jeffries, take the young girls before they are old enough or mature enough to think on their own and marry them off to older men. I believe TF was doing this as well even recently, though it wasn't polygamy necessarily. Then they can subvert these young girls and they grow up thinking this is their lot in life and they should abide by it. What was so pathetic in the Jeffries case was how they were (and still are I suppose) sending off the young men so that the older men could have the young girls to themselves. They showed many of these young men wondering aimlessly around the states, no family, no friends, no knowledge of working and living outside their environment (sound familiar?). That was a heart-breaker. I just don't see any benefit to it to anyone but men. Even in Muslim societies, the women are left to themselves to raise the children. How can a child of 40 children to one father ever really know his father? I think this is why Paul so wise said, something like let every man have his own wife.
