I'd want to ask them why they said that. I'd want to ask my child what he or she thinks about school and why?
Some kids hate school because they get teased if they are different. Mine did when we first came back because they spoke with accents and wore clothes that were different.

Some get picked on because they are not athletic or for a billion other reasons.

Mine were fringe dwellers for awhile and then got close to the jocks. They were then favored and did better in school but then they dropped out of high school. They were bored.

They struggled for some time. I don't know if it is related to the tight control in the Family vs. sudden and lengthy freedom or if it is boredom or what.

I just want to encourage you that in spite of dropping out they did go on to get GED's and then furthered education after a few years of no school, hard knocks and no one to bail them out of trouble. One ended up getting scholarships to a cutting edge university as well as grants and loans and is now very successful and productive.

The other got student loans and furthered his education in areas of interest.

Another apprenticed with designers and is highly successful today.

I say this because I know there was an extended period of time when things looked hopeless.
