I've just finished a training class for an ACP program; an Alternative Acreditation Program (for teachers). I didn't notice where the child in question was in school, including what country.

But in the States, a teacher like that, even the administration of an entire shcool, can be confronted by the parents, and can be ALL fired and replaced by teachers and administrators who do NOT take that unofficial stance, by law. That is especially true (and has additional legal "teeth", so-to-speak, if and when the child has any kind of learning disability, and so on).

All American teachers teach from what's called a TEKS format; a VERY detailed list of exactly what the children AND TEACHERS must be doing in the classroom on a daily basis. It's akin to a nurse charting a hospital patient; thing DO NOT get done without it, and it is ALWAYS the instrument that a principal must use as well.

So, a bad pricipal can be NAILED by one (a TEKS sheet); if necessary.

The official position is that ALL students ARE teachable, including the mentally retarded, ADD/ADHDers, and every other child with any sort of learning disability. These kids are in the MAINSTREAM now, and HAVE to be accomodated.

Merely behaviorally based (vs. dysfunctional)disruptive students can also be sent to "remedial" schools, but that's always as a last resort.

If both a teacher, or group of teachers, makes allegations about the child, it has to be noted on a daily basis. You can involve CPS, against the school and FOR the student's sake, school district lawyers, and do on, at NO COST (ALSO the law).

And, yes, even pricipals can be FIRED over issues with ONE child's abuse by the school; collectively.

It's in their interest to actuall listen to the parents. Some parents don't know how much power the law gives them, now. There is NO reason to put up with the lazy and abusive; there ARE good teachers out there.
