Two responses to the Muslim sensitivity thing: 1) I'm talking to whoever will listen about the plight of burqa-wearing women and asking my audience to visit the RAWA website (Revolutionary Association of Women of Afghanistan) for more information. I'll be passing out a card with the RAWA info. 2) The burqa I'm wearing is really a tribal dress unique to the Pashtun people, not a Muslim garment per se. It's Muslim inasmuch as it's modest--as extremely modest as you can get in the Muslim world.

I guess if I run into any Pashtun Muslim extremists on Halloween, I'll be celebrating All Saints Day in heaven this year.

Actually, my most over the top idea for this costume is to wrap a bunch of empty toilet-paper rolls in aluminum foil and put pipe-cleaner wicks in the top. Then tape 6-8 "dynamite" sticks to my body with an alarm clock for a timer. The big thrill comes when I throw the burqa up over my head and expose my "bomb" pack.

I'm not actually going to do this, of course. It seems like a potentially irresponsible joke and pretty offensive as far as Pashtun Muslims are concerned. Nevertheless, people can still get a laugh out of the idea.

I have a very dark sense of humor.
