I was reading an article in Mutuality Magazine (it’s put out by Christian’s for Biblical Equality), it is on Pandita Ramabai, an amazing woman in history, and I found myself bothered by a twisted version of this woman’s story that Berg wrote. Do any of you remember it? I really can’t remember the details, but I was one more time reminded of how Berg warped and perverted everything; Scripture, the news, History, even the history of this incredible woman, to suit, justify and propagate his own pitiful view of life as he chose it.
Pandita (which was a name given her for her knowledge of Sanskrit and ancient text which means "wise person") Ramabai was a preeminent pioneer in woman’s rights in India. She was High Cast born and highly educated by her innovative father in a time when women were not educated and given in marriage as young as 8. She is said to have been fluent in several languages. Her story of tragedy and hope is remarkable in a time when Indian women were married before puberty, listed with the shoes as possessions and when widowed became the unmentionable slaves of the husbands family. She became a Christian when she was studying Medicine in London. She later wrote:
“One can feel that the teaching of our Lord Jesus comes from the All-Father, who loves not one nation, not one class, or one caste, but bears in His heart every creature of his hand; it would be a blessed day for India, if her sons and daughters could see that He is a revelation of the Father.”
The article notes that her innovative methods led her into conflict with others of her Christian faith and her Hindu parentage by ministering to all in need of help. Her Mukti (salvation) mission grew to house and educate over 2000 women and girls, high cast child widows, those suffering sexual abuse, famine, disability among every cast. The article notes that she translated the entire Bible from the original Hebrew and Greek into her native Marathi, and was awarded India’s Kaiser-e-Hind gold metal in 1919
